Webinar 3: Forensic Pathology Essentials

Forensic Pathology Essentials, featuring conversations with medical
examiners who are forensic pathology experts, lets you discover what
happens to a body from the crime scene to the autopsy. This webinar will
take you through the process of how an autopsy is conducted covering
the different areas of the body; head, neck, chest, abdomen, arm, and
skin. The webinar will delve into observations and science revolving
around strangulation, blunt trauma, poisoning, stab wounds, gunshot
wounds and more.
Webinar panelists include:
- Professor Carol Henderson is the founding director of the
award winning National Clearinghouse for Science, Technology and the Law
(NCSTL) and a Professor of Law at Stetson University College of Law.
- Dr. J.C. Upshaw Downs has served as a Forensic
Pathology consultant (forensX, LLC forensXpert.com) for over a quarter
century. Dr. Downs has served as the State Medical Examiner for the
Alabama Department of Forensic Sciences and the Coastal Regional Medical
Examiner for the Georgia Bureau of Investigation. He has served as a
pathology professor at several universities, as well as on several
boards, advisory councils, and committees involving forensic pathology.
- Dr. Darin Trelka has worked as a medical examiner in the Commonwealth of Virginia from 2005 to 2007, as a forensicpathologist for the Cuyahoga County Coroner’s Office in Cleveland Ohio from 2007 to 2009, and from 2009 to 2014, served as an associate, deputy chief and Interim Chief Medical Examiner at the Broward County Medical Examiner’s Office in Fort Lauderdale Florida. Currently Dr. Trelka is an Assistant Professor of Clinical
Biomedical Science and Director of Anatomical Programs at the Charles E. Schmidt College of Medicine of Florida Atlantic University.
